Creating Dangerously: Women (Re)Making the Modern World

SYMPOSIUM | December 10-11, 2026 |Studio, Wereldmuseum Amsterdam

The RCMC in collaboration with AWARE and Carleton University, are pleased to convene our upcoming symposium Creating Dangerously: Women (Re)Making the Modern World, organised as part of the preparation for an exhibition of the same title.

The exhibition’s title takes inspiration from two similarly titled texts, one by the Algerian-born, French philosopher Albert Camus, and the other by the Haitian American novelist and short story writer, Edwige Danticat, both exploring the role of art and artists in times of precarity and uncertainty.

More about the event

"Create dangerously, for people who read dangerously. This is what I've always thought it
meant to be a writer. Writing, knowing in part that no matter how trivial your words may
seem, someday, somewhere, someone may risk his or her life to read them." ― Edwidge
Danticat
