With fashion fest Tropenmuseum edition 2018 we give talents diverse perspectives on fashion, art and design. Fashion fest is an exclusive educational program and competition that includes different perspectives. It encourages the use of different materials and textiles and focuses on the importance of storytelling.

The fashion fest Tropenmuseum edition 2018 is a co–creation between MAFB and the Research Center for Material Culture. The annual fest celebrates diversity, talent and inspiration through cultural heritage and is a battlefield for creativity that accommodates young talents operating within fashion design, hairstyling, make-up and modelling.

Over the course of the program, all participants form an interdisciplinary team to co-create a catwalk show that is inspired by the museum's collection. The participants visit the archives of the Tropenmuseum, receive personal coaching sessions, and join several masterclasses to help develop their talent and their vision on this year's theme: Refusal.

On the 9th of December, the teams present their work on the Tropenmuseum catwalk at the Grande Finale. A jury will judge all the contestants and a winner from each discipline will be announced during the final presentation in the Lichthal of the Tropenmuseum.
